The library is designed in the shape of an oval square with external parameters of approximately 75 x 75m. The structure has six storeys above the ground and three below. The first and second storeys are of a public character with supplementary functions (a café, lecture hall, exhibition space, branch of the city library, evening reading room). The actual operational parts of the library begin on the 2nd floor. The additional above ground storeys contain stacks, reading rooms, classrooms and the administrative facilities of the library. The centre of the underground areas is reserved for library facilities (book storage, technology) and the basement car park. The design of the volume of the National Technical Library is a reaction to the site and the typology which is contained within it.
